in which jiva achieves but also rants

January 17, 2008

yeah I’ve been doing stuff. I just feel that I’m updating for the sake of it or I’ve done too much and cant remember it. SO here is a sorry attempt at keeping you up to date. If you like rants skip to the last paragraph, if you dont, skip that instead.

My brothers’ birthday present and twins presents are sorted. yay!

Entertainment for our wedding is under progress. I’ve found a corsetiere in Norwich that looks great, and hopefully even though I’ve booked another appointment in London, will save me lots of extra travel and cost. I’ve started a small wedding note book. Just a pain old wire bound note book with Clare 4 Scotty written on the front. I’ve stapled and sellotaped things inside it like my dress silk, card contacts and little magazine dress snippets. I’ve made notes of when I’ve paid things and what needs to be done. At least then even as a rough record I will have tangible evidence that I yes ME fizzle head blond can and will organize her own wedding. Its not rocket science, I don’t know what has changed from before. Before I was scared of doing it, now I’m not, I’m ready and waiting for it all to come my way.

The socks are coming along with a fair bit of ripping back and knitting on and ripping back etc. Its the calf increases which will completely add to the design as well as everything else. It all changes in my mind on a regular basis. I’ve found the general rule of thumb for calf increasing in knitting knee length socks is……

one stitch increase every 3 or 4 rows. At the moment I’m doing increase round then 3 rounds. Also increasing just one stitch in to the back of the leg is almost impossible to get neat and tidy on every other increase. The pain is the extra stitch is not in between others as such, one increase is, the next has to be nestled in and hidden as a one stitch made in to two instead of a normal make on after or before a stitch. Most confusing, even to the point of making up a stitch I’ve not seen before “Purl back purl front” which sort of adds an almost even extra stitch but it will hopefully look better once washed and blocked and not so…. whats the word… wonky.

Le sigh

Finally I finished the mitts for my colleague all bar the ends being weaved in and she has requested mitten covers to make them in to mittens.. fair enough, I’ve not done that before. I’ll try it once I get a bit more knitting mojo, right now I have 4 items lurking in my knitting back never nearing completion and starting to eat away at the back of my mind saying rip me or eat me!

Oh one more minor thing, something I have to cope with on a daily basis at work. PEOPLE HANGING UP. Now phone calls are most of my day, having my phone blip once, maybe twice and hang as I pick it up is slowly driving me nutty, quite twitchy and generally almost stabby. PLEASE if you ever do call me, wait, I’ll be there, 99.9% of the time within 3 rings, I’m THAT good at keeping up with my phone. I know I have call divert between numbers which may not help but perrrrLEASE if I have to answer another hang up call again today (5 already) I’m going to hunt down that phone via the analog line, pulling all the cables out and personally use the cable to knit a new noose for the perpetrator hang them and then hang up on them.

OK rant over, sorry. Normal non foetal positions can now be resumed.

*insert high speed chase music here*

January 13, 2008

Friday was great, Erasmus’s vet trip was good. He was very pleased with his progress. He now has steroids to get rid of the itching which has completely stopped him licking his back leg. woohoo! He will be on pills for the rest of his days but happy enough with it.

Next was a trip to mum and dads to take a look at weddingy stuffs. We discussed my dress and my sisters.

This is the silk we are going to use.

I collected the new cat tree my brother in-law kindly got for us. Argos, mighty cheap at £30 but also only available in Fakenham. I then went on to my brothers for a play with the kids and to test their presents. I need to take one pair of trousers back to the shop.

Saturday we cleaned the lounge and moved all the furniture about. We’ve blocked one of the doors but it has made a ton more space in the room and we can now fit in a dining table. Now we have to sort the other rooms to get that table free. We’ve been hoovering with our new Dyson Animal. It works so very well and its great to get up and down the stairs. They needed it. The cat tree has gone up and met with fantastic approval.

box inspection

I’ve finished all bar blocking and tying in ends on a pair of tight black mitts for a colleague. The kitchen has been swept and mopped, 5 loads of washing have gone on, the dish washer has been on twice. We’ve hoovered all 3 floors and all the stairs. Generally its been a spring clean with regular breaks. Finally I’ve just finished cooking and eating a top class veggie lasagna with enough left to freeze and refrigerate. All paperwork has been filed and tidied and the book shelves cleaned up. Having Scotty around to share the work has made it great, we work so very well together almost like a well oiled machine. Overall a very high achievement weekend but also now I ache from all that pushing broom.

befuddled

January 9, 2008

I’ve been out every lunch time with my colleague and friend Di. She’s getting married in May so we’ve visited at least 4 weddingy type shops over the past two lunch times. I have managed to get one thing and I fell in love with it. A necklace for me, to match my yet unmade dress. Pure silver with blue topaz.

my little treat

The ideas are building up, style, colour and generally what needs to be done. I am at a loss with several areas. Ive charged Scotty with the honeymoon so its one less thing for me to sort. I’m sure we can put together an itunes play list and keep it low key for music and entertainment. Still it would be nice to have something a little special, its just what. Any ideas welcome. I’m still on a budget so hiring a band is not really what I want. Firstly before caterers and any other things we need to decide who is coming. This is something I’m not sure I want to choose yet, but it has to be done and soon.

I was so wiped out yesterday evening from all the running around at work (lots of PC replacements going on) and the walks at lunch and walking home and getting the shopping on the way. I did not pick up the knitting. I feel like its getting away from me. The want to write down a pattern and complete the cable heart cascade socks is burning in the back of my mind but they are still locked in stalemate. I need to make them long even if I want them short, so I can publish a full and part pattern.

Erasmus is booked in to the vet for Friday morning and shock of all shocks his leg now appears to be healing up a bit. I’m not going to cancel now. I’d rather be safe and pay for another vets visit than worry about it. He seems happy though spending most of the evening curled next to me.

where did that go?

January 6, 2008

work has been busy, I’ve been out most lunch times getting stuff sorted. I’ve now paid the deposit for our wedding. Starting to think about how it should all pan out. I’ve booked with the registrar for us to both give notice. Poetically I booked it on my birthday so Scotty has to take the day off to spend it with me.

Erasmus is booked in to the vets next friday for another check up. Another day off, although this is my “free day” from Christmas.

Started a pair of super tight mitts for someone at work. They are all black and I’m going for a channel style look, long and slinky.

I’m at stalemate with the socks fighting with myself whether to make them short or long. There are many reasons for and against. I just cant decide so they sit unfinished, and therefore unpublished.

finally a long awaited stash parcel arrived. I so have to stop spending soon!

sneaky stash

January 2, 2008

one thing I neglected to mention was the visit to the yarn store with my Christmas money. I spent £85 on yarn. It was like heaven. I bought:

Araucania Ranco Solid in green. Its a very full green and the same as my red, big and smooshy.

Norfolk Yarn started stocking colinette jitterbug. I’ve seen it all over the web but never actually felt it. I fell in love from first sight and bought two hanks of the stuff. One in a wonderful deep navy blue with light shading and another green, this one more muddy and on the yellower and mossier side. Both are fondled regularly.

Finally my big spend was 4 hanks of pure silk. I’ve not got the details with me now but at £13.40 per skein of 50g it was a HUGE spend on some very luxurious yarn. I’m saving this for myself. I think I may save them all for myself but first I have to take photos of it all and get it in my ravelry stash. I’m tempted to keep it off ravelry until I get it ready to knit. Denying that my stash has now grown so big it does not fit in the two boxes under my bed.

I did order some other yarn from a sale online from pureknits.com prior to Christmas but as yet I am still waiting. Even though it arrived in the UK on 13th December I’m sadly bereft of the yarn and hoping that one day it will reach me.

Now on to new year.

On short notice my brother called and we all headed over to his house for the evening. I’d driven to Cambridge on Monday morning for work and came back around lunch time. I completed work around 4pm, then got myself together, packed the wii and the wellies and the camera and went to his. All my family were there and we had a wonderful evening of playing with the bowling and other games. Everyone took part which kind of made the evening.

Mum and Dad left shortly after midnight and Scotty and I disappeared in to the back garden to play with his new torch and the camera. Light fun was not as successful as we hoped but it was fun.

We camped on the dining room floor which was ok until I realised my wonderful and lovely posh air bed had a slow release hole. By 4am ish I was sleeping on the hard floor, by 5am I was on the sofa drifting back off in to dream land. My sister and her kids stayed over too so once the twins were up at 8am the entire house rose and we all had breakfast together and let the kids play some more on the wii. I loved it, although tired it was great.

New years day was spent on the sofa knitting again, trying not to sleep so I could get a good nights sleep for work. The cable heart cascade socks are coming on great and I am so very very happy with the inspired idea of breaking the flowing pattern and twisting it around the back of the leg.

The only issue is I will have great trouble in producing this pattern for others to use, I want to do it but because of the pattern transfer I had to move to double pointed needles whilst the pattern traveled behind the leg.

Over all a very happy Christmas and new year has been had. I have sooo many things I need to achieve this year I think listing them would probably make me want to scream. What with the wedding, making felted flowers, knitting and pattern writing which I’ve not even started on yet… EEP Although being ready to start it all is a nice feeling.

Hope you all have as much to look forward to this year as I do.
