my first ever….99ish things.

January 22, 2009

I don’t do blog round memes… I like reading them. I just don’t think I can often write enough about them to make them interesting.

Given that I have little or no interesting news, oh except Dad came over for dinner on Sunday and cooked the bestest fish pie ever for us. Even the cats were interested!

So anyways on to the 99 things meme. As always I’m going to do things my way. This means quite a few things will change as I go along because I know a lot of the items are US related and I can translate them in to something else.

Carie and Mary both did this, its about time I joined in.

If you join in, please leave a comment so that I can read yours.

Things you’ve already done: bold
Things you want to do: italicize
Things you haven’t done and don’t want to – leave in plain font

1. Started your own blog. I even wrote my own code once… on my own wordpress hosted at home jobby. Then I got bored and now host online at wordpress not worrying about sorting out any code at all. That is what my husband is for. Code monkey!

2. Slept under the stars. Sorta, I camped often as a child but always with a tent.

3. Played in a band. GOD NO. Cant sing and certainly cant hold down a tune on any instrument. I listen instead.

5. Watched a meteor shower. Several, non that really took my breath away but seen my fair share of shooting stars.

6. Given more than you can afford to charity. NAH. I give, but I’m reticent to tell anyone. The point of charitable giving for me is to only have YOU know what YOU have given, therefore you cant feel guilty. Bragging about it is just, well, eurgh.

7. Been to Disneyland/world. Does Disneyland Paris count? 3 times. Once as a child the year after it opened and twice for work. The work outings were much more enjoyable because I could drink before getting on the rides. puke ups, nil! Hoorah!

8. Climbed a mountain. Nope. A fair few hills in my time but nothing THAT big. Although I have been driven by my parents over most of France as a kid I may have been driven up a mountain. The roads were certainly scary enough.

10. Sang a solo. HHAHAHAAHAHAHAHahahahahah ahahahahahaha ahahahaha *breathe* ahahahahahaha hahahaha please stop me I’ve got a stitch. Oh… maybe I have. I think it was a school harvest festival. *shudders at the memory* at around age 8. Oh and crikey I just remembered I lead a kirtan or two at the temple. That would count.

11. Bungee jumped. I like my eyeballs and retinas still attached thanks. I thought it may be fun when I was younger but I just know my skin would never fit the same again now. I like rides where you’re strapped in and its SAFE.

12. Visited Paris. A couple of times. Once with my parents, once on a school trip where the bus went round the arc de triomphe TWICE. SCARY.

13. Watched a lightning storm at sea. Also like Mary I grew up on the coast and saw many a sea storm from the land. Always impressive and cool.

14. Taught yourself an art from scratch. Needle felting. Great fun stabbing things until your wrists hurts and getting something pretty at the end of it.

15. Adopted a child. not likely. I’m happy as I am and I would like to try and create my own first. My need to mother and have children has so not kicked in properly.

16. Had food poisoning. Oh yes. Both ends at the same time . On a training course in London. Best thing I could do was get a cab to the hotel and sit in bed with a very very large brandy and a little light sorbet. It worked! best cure ever.

29. Seen a total eclipse. Shpoooky.

30. Watched a sunrise or sunset. many many times. helps living in a country where during the winter the sun rises between 6 and 9 and sets between 3 and 8. Also saw some on honeymoon.  Oh and getting up at 4am with the hare krishnas leads to some great sunrise chanting. Most enjoyable meditation.

46. Been transported in an ambulance. Never. Never ever even been inside an ambulance. Been to A&E but never for myself. Only been in hospital once since birth and that was to have my wisdom teeth removed all at the same time. Worst nights kip ever.

47. Had your portrait painted. YAY!

48. Gone deep sea fishing. Sailed your own boat. I used to own a laser sailing boat when I was 16. Had my photo taken with Richard Branson which then was used as a caption compatition which resulted in the caption: “smile or I squeeze harder bitch” I’m so glad I don’t have that photo any more.

92. Joined a book club. sounds like hard work. I’ve not got enough time to craft let alone read and then blab about it.

I nominate my husband to do this too, and anyone else who wants to.

EDIT: some more substitutions for visiting the great american places on the list:

Visited Dublin, nice city. It was a bit cold and damp in february. Driven clean accross the UK from norfolk to west wales and back. Driven abroad in france, spain and portugal. Did my “duke of edinboroughs award” did the bronze, tried the silver twice and failed and damaged my back permanantly in the process. Oh and many more things that just makes life interesting but would look dull here.

  1. bit yank centric isn’t it? I have actually visited a concentration camp, I think it was this one – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natzweiler-Struthof

  2. I agree it is. I tried to change a few but ran out of ideas.

  3. You’ve done loads of good stuff. I like the replacements for the Yank centric items 🙂
